Musicquest Philippines By Tatiana Batalla is back with its highly anticipated Songwriting Competition Season 2. This competition is open to all Filipino songwriters who want to showcase their original compositions and compete against other talented artists. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or a newcomer to the industry, this competition provides the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your talents and get your music heard.

This year’s competition promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with more exciting prizes and opportunities for the winners. The competition will be judged by a panel of expert judges, who will be looking for creativity, originality, and musicality in the songs submitted.

The theme for this season’s competition is romantic love songs, and we are looking for songs that capture the essence of true love. Your song can be in any language, as long as it is an original composition that you have written yourself. The submission period for the competition will be from April 10, 2023, to October 30, 2023. The competition will be judged by a panel of expert judges who are highly respected in the music industry. 

They will be looking for songs that are well-written, well-structured, and emotionally impactful. The grand prize for the competition is Php 250,000 and First Place up to Ninth place winners will also receive cash prizes and other exciting opportunities. To enter the competition, simply  fill out the entry form below. MECHANICS

Please read carefully before submitting entry

1. The contest is open to all youth aged 15 and above, residing in any region of the Philippines.

2. The length of the audio must be at least 3 minutes and shall not exceed 5 minutes. The AUDIO must be submitted in  MP3 format.

3. Competition Theme is “ROMANTIC LOVE SONG”  in any genres, except for Worship and Heavy Metal Songs.

4. Each participant is allowed to submit two (2) entrees only (so pick your best). Entries must not have been used and/or entered in any other competition or published in any  media, social media (Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok, etc.) and posted online for whatever purpose, prior to the start and during the competition.

5. The video content must be in English/Filipino or local dialect with caption or subtitle on the bottom.

6. Entrants must not use copyrighted material in their audio.

7. Submit Song Lyrics in Word or PDF format.

8. All entries must be ORIGINAL and made by the person entering competition.

12. All winning entries and  videos that will be posted to our social media page and channel will become a property of Musicquest Philippines. (see Terms and Condition)

Criteria

Originality of lyrics 20%

๏ Refers to the degree to which the song's lyrics are unique, creative, and fresh. Judges will be looking for lyrics that are not clichéd or overused, and that bring a new perspective or angle to the theme of love. Originality can also refer to the way the lyrics are crafted, including the use of metaphors, similes, and other literary devices. A song with highly original lyrics is likely to stand out from the crowd and make a lasting impression on the listener. Judges may also consider how well the lyrics fit with the melody and overall feel of the song.

Emotional impact 20%

๏ refers to the degree to which the song is able to convey a strong emotional message about love and move the listener. Judges will be looking for songs that are able to evoke a deep emotional response, whether it be joy, sadness, passion, or any other feeling associated with love. The lyrics, melody, and performance should all work together to create an emotional connection with the listener. Judges may also consider how well the song resonates with the theme of the competition, and whether it is able to communicate a unique perspective or interpretation of love. A song with a high emotional impact is likely to leave a lasting impression on the listener and be remembered long after the competition has ended.

Melodic appeal 20%

๏ refers to the degree to which the melody of the song is catchy, memorable, and pleasing to the ear. Judges will be looking for songs that have a strong hook or chorus that is easy to sing along to, as well as verses that flow smoothly and complement the melody. The melody should be unique and original, yet also accessible and easy to remember. Judges may also consider how well the melody fits with the lyrics and overall theme of the song. A song with high melodic appeal is likely to stay with the listener long after the competition has ended and become a hit among audiences.

Vocals and performance 20%

๏ refer to the degree to which the singer performs the song effectively and conveys the emotion and feeling of the lyrics. Judges will be looking for singers who are able to hit the right notes, stay in tune, and deliver a polished performance. Additionally, they will be evaluating how well the singer is able to connect with the audience and convey the emotion of the song through their vocals and overall performance. Judges may also consider factors such as stage presence, charisma, and overall confidence in the performance. A song with high vocals and performance is likely to engage and captivate the audience and leave a lasting impression.

Overall production quality 20%

๏ refers to the degree to which the song is well-produced, mixed, and mastered. Judges will be evaluating the technical aspects of the song, such as the clarity of the instruments, the balance of the vocals, and the overall sound quality. They will also be looking for songs that are well-mixed and mastered, with no distracting background noise or distortion. Judges may also consider the overall production value of the song, including the use of effects, transitions, and other production techniques to enhance the overall sound. A song with high overall production quality is likely to sound professional and polished, and be able to compete with other high-quality recordings in the music industry.
